To advance high-impact scholarship at the intersection of technology, culture, and environment, the JPN Centre launched competitive research funding calls in 2023 and 2024, supporting a total of 29 interdisciplinary projects across Digital and Environmental Humanities. Each call was announced nationally and attracted strong interest from academic institutions across India. Proposals underwent a rigorous two-stage evaluation process: an initial double-blind peer review by two external experts, followed by presentations before a high-level selection committee comprising scholars from institutes of national eminence. Final selections were based on scholarly merit, innovation, alignment with the Centre’s thematic focus, and potential societal impact.

• In 2023, the Centre received 31 proposals, of which 10 were funded.
• In 2024, 38 proposals were submitted, with 19 selected for support.
• In parallel, JPN-affiliated faculty are also engaged in externally funded research, supported by agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration), further strengthening the Centre’s research ecosystem.

The Centre has initiated academic programmes that reflect its commitment to interdisciplinary research and advanced training in the Digital Humanities and Environmental Humanities. These were developed through the Curriculum Development Workshop held in November 2023, which brought together leading national and international experts to design forward-looking, transdisciplinary curricula.

• The PhD programme, launched in 2024, currently hosts five scholars working across the Centre’s thematic areas.
• The Centre also hosts one MS Research scholar and provides funding support to two additional MS Research students.
• The Centre hosts a postdoctoral research facility that offers infrastructure and mentorship for advanced, cross-disciplinary projects. It supports funded initiatives such as digitising cultural archives, documenting endangered traditions, and researching ecological change, climate migration, and public history
